Busy Little Beaver

Boy, I tell you, time flies when you're having fun.  Not that everything I've been doing lately has been fun, but I have been busy.  I have been doing craft shows every weekend since the end of September and working full-time and doing shows on the weekend has been taking a toll.  And I have three more to go before the end of this season.

Let's see, I was in Adairsville,GA, Gainesville. GA, Summerville, GA and Lylery, GA.  Adairsville was a slow start and it was my first three-day show.  Friday, was so slow, I was beginning to have my doubts about how good a show this was going to be, despite what other vendors have said.  I held out and it did get better.  I didn't make huge sales but I did have fun and would go back again.  Gainesville, on the other hand, was so disappointing, I don't think that I will go back.  It was another three-day show and the forecast said a perfect weekend.  I was excited and said, I should do real well at this show.  (My first time doing this one).  Friday was good. Saturday, I woke up to it pouring down rain.  When I got to my booth, I saw some of my totes outside of my tent.  I go in my tent and everything that was under my tent was turned over and filled with water.  Do you know what it's like to see your hard earned work, go down the drain, literally.  There were suds going down the curb because many of soaps were still in their totes.  Apparently, it flooded and washed my out from under the tables and tent.  I lost a few hundred dollars in product and I was soooo disappointed, that I was ready to pack up and leave right then and there.  Well my friend, Mandy and another soapmaker that I had met the day before, talked me into staying.  I did and it wasn't too bad but definitely did not make the money expected for a 70,000 show attendance.  Then Sunday came and guess what?  It started raining again, and I threw my hands up and said forget it.  I packed everything up, by myself I might add, and drove 2 1/2 hours home wet from head to toe.

Those two shows made me re-group and re-think my business strategy and whether or not I was going to continue on this journey.  I love what I do and I can't see myself not making soap or any of my other products, but there has got to be a better way to get my name/brand out there.  So, right now, I am going to finish this year out with my commitment to the other shows and then it is down to business and come up with a new business plan.  I am not going to give up, nothing that is worth anything comes easy and I am not a quitter.

With that being said, I will be making more soap and getting ready for the Christmas holidays.  I am also planning on having an open house party at my home in December for those last minute gifts you would like to purchase.  I am also formulating some new products and narrowing down the fragrances that I will offer in my soaps.

I also want to thank those of you who have supported me in my journey and look forward to a much more successful year next year.

Guess Where Else you Can Find Me??

YouTube!!!  That's right, I have a channel on Youtube where you can see me making soap, see some of my other products, doing tutorials on wrapping soap and just having fun.  So come stop by and subscribe and be some of the first to see any new videos that I post.  Just click Here to see my Channel.

New Products coming your Way

I know it has been a while since I have posted and that is because I have been busy with Christmas coming, taking care of my Mom and working.  There is light at the end of the tunnel, thankfully :).  Since I have been home with my mother, I have still been able to squeeze a few batches of soaps out, lol.  I also wanted to work on improving my recipe and instead of having several (like 20+)  I wanted to keep like three main recipes and improve on them.  I wanted to provide more lather, improve the conditioning properties and have the bar last longer.  Well, I think that I have come up with a pretty nice bar of soap or should I say soaps.  I am phasing out my other bars and putting my new bars up on my website and in my ArtFire Store.  Let me tell you, that's a lot of work, changing out everything, but I am getting close. (Thank God!)  I also wanted to add a few new products and those will be introduced after the New Year, YAY!!!  Here are a couple of my newest soaps and they have been listed on my website.

The first is a Dead Sea Mud Bar with Dead Sea Mud and Seaweed.  I fragranced it with Sea Glass, which is a nice green fragrance.  I am very happy with the way it came out.  What is so special about a Dead Sea Mud Soap, you ask, well let me tell you.  Many Spas use Dead Sea Mud to cleanse and detoxify your body.  This does the same, only you won't get "muddy" so to speak.  People have been using Dead Sea Mud for years believing that it will make them look younger, revitalize them and so on.  I don't make any medical claims with the soaps that I make, but I will say that you will feel refreshed after using it.  I have also put seaweed in here as I thought that it would go along nicely with Mud.

If you are a coffee lover, you will LOVE this one!  Not only can you enjoy your fresh cup of coffee in the morning, but you can bathe in a lovely scented Cafe Mocha Bar.  I also though that I would add a little twist to this soap and offer it in a coffee mug and spoon.  The soap in the mug is about 12 ounces of soap, you can slice off the size you want and enjoy your shower.  Scented with Coffee, Vanilla, and Chocolate.  I piped the tops of the bars as well as the soap in the mug.

I formulated a beautiful shampoo bar with Olive Oil, Avocado Oil and Beer just to name a few of the ingredients that I used.  This didn't orginally start out as a shampoo bar, it was a beer soap.  I decided that I would try this one on my hair.  I have used cold-processed soap in my hair in the past but they usually left my hair brittle, dry and unmanageable.  When I tired this one, it was love at first lather!  My hair is manageable, soft, silky and bouncy.  I have not used commercial shampoo since and that has been about six months now.  I have had family use it and they too have fell in love with my shampoo bar.  I was using a Honey Ale fragrance but now I am using a fragrance similar to Herbal Essence.  I plan on making some more with other fragrances so you will have a few to choose from.  I also made a batch without beer and it is also a good bar, but I personally prefer to use one with beer.  the first one pictured is with beer and the second one is without.  The lather from this bar is amazing, you can't really tell the difference between it and the lather from a commercial shampoo.

Another one of my favorites is Green Springs, it smells just like Irish Spring, A lovely unisex, fresh clean scent.  All I can say is that I love this one!

So I am not only making body soap, but I am also making laundry soap and a stain remover.  My laundry soap is shreds from my stain remover so you get the additional benefits from my stain remover in your laundry soap.  I have had a stain on one of my night shirts and had tried everything to get it out with no success  (It had been on there for months).  After I formulated my stain remover, I tried it on that stain.  I wet it and rub the stain remover on it and made a paste.  I didn't even let it sit very long, before I threw it in the laundry.  To my wonderful surprise, the stain was out!  Others who have used it have told me that they have gotten stains out that they tried everything else with.  Now, I'm not going to say that it will take out every stain you have but it does get out many staiins.  You just have to try to it beleive it.  With the laundry soap you use 1-2 tablespoons per load.  I tend to use a little more but you will be surprised that it does get your clothes clean.  It doesn't make a lot of suds; if any at all but it is doing it's job.  I not only make the powder laundry detergent, I also make the liquid, but I usually use that for myself :)  Who knows, maybe I will offer the liquid is a quart size.

I will be sharing more in the upcoming weeks and hope that you have found this to be informative and insightful to some of the products that I offer to you.

The Annual Longest Yard Sale

Well it's that time of year again.  The week/weekend before school starts back around here.   It's time for the Longest Yard Sale that is about 600 miles long and spans from Gadsden, Alabama to Hudson, Michigan.  You can find anything from antiques to som crazy creation that someone calls art.  It's a time of fun, meeting people from all over the country.  You cannot imagine how many people come out to sell as well as to buy.  It usually lasts four days but the hard-core vendors come out about five days earlier ready to go.  I didn't sell last year, it was way toooo hot for me.  And it's gonna be a scorcher again this year but I am going to brave it and will be out there selling my wares and such.  I invite you to come out and see what all the fuss is about and come stop by my booth and say hello or make a sale.  Here is a link with some information about the Sale.  Hope to see you there!!!!

Mountain Market Day

This was the first market day and it was such a big success that they are going to do it again in the Fall. It was so hot out there, I thought that I was going to melt and by the end of the day, I was worn out. Despite how hot it was, there were plenty of shoppers and I did great in sales. I met a couple of other soapmakers including Amanda from the Soaps and Lotion Forum. I had a great time and can't wait to do it again. Oh, and how can I forget, I had one shop owner from Georgia ask about carrying some of my products in her shop in Georgia. So, all in all I say that I had a very good day. The pics are of my new set-up, so let me know your opinion. BTW, ignore what's under the table, lol.

cupcakes, cupcakes everywhere!

I am so loving making cupcake bath Fizzies and soap. When I first started making them, I couldn't get the frosting right. Well, after much practice and tweaking my recipe, I think I have it down pat. The above cupcake Fizzies are Canberry Orange, Margarita lime and hot pink pomergranate. I love making cupcakes so much that I have been trying my hand at real cupcakes. the second two pictures are of some of the real cupcakes that I made recently.  The second pic is of my berry lemonade cupcakes and the third pic is of the beer cupcakes that i made.  The beer cupcakes were left in for just a couple of minutes too long, so they were not as moist as I would'e liked them to be; but trust me, they went just as fast as the berry lemonade here at home.  I had given my son some to take to school and he said that he was not going to take them, they were too good to share.  He sure knows how to stroke his mom's ego, lol.  The first set of cupcakes that I made a week before were sweet potato, strawberry and chocolate cupcakes.  I may have to slow down as we might not be able to walk through the door soon.  :)

Bubble Bars

I have wanted to make bubble bars for a while and I had to wait until I had all the ingredients.  I finally made a small batch the other day and scented it with Daisy Type from Nature's Garden.  They smell sooooo good and the color is a pretty pink and white swirl.  Pink is one of my favorite colors :).  I tried one of them to test it out and wow! the bubbles that it makes.  A nice way to pamper yourself and like I said, the fragrance is to die for in my opinion.  Here is a pic of my batch.

Busy, Busy, Busy Day

After being in training all week, going into to work after training, I came home and made three batches of soap for my luxury line.  The first is Passion Fruit Papaya made with aloe juice, goat's milk, and organic sweet potato, cocoa butter, shea butter, olive oil, avacado oil, coconut and canola oil.  The second was made with goat's milk and the same butters and oil.  The third batch is my first beer soap made with Miller Lite, white tea and the same butters and oils.  Let me tell you, when I made that beer soap, I thought that was I was in an old brewery!  I am hoping that it will mellow out, I can smell a slight fruity scent and I am hoping that will come through.  I will post cut pics when they are ready.

It's a little messy right now, poured it a little too thin.

Cut Pics

Here are pics of the the last batches that I made.  Very pleased with how they came out.  I'm a little worried about the last one, it is a salt bar and it appears that most of the salt settled down to bottom.  I scented it with Cranberry Fizz from Wholesale Supplie Plus.  The fragrance is very strong!
