Decorating for Valentine's Day
Hello 2017! Christmas has passed and with the new year starts the new round of holidays. Valentine's is quickly approaching and I decided for the new year I would decorate my house accordingly. Although I make many home decor items, I never decorate my own house! So, I made a few items to decorate my mantle and coffee table. First, I made a set of candle holders to go on my coffee table. I used candle stick holders and glass candle plates. I spray painted them all in metallic silver and glued them together. I got three large glass containers and tied tile. Ones around th and put large white pillar candles in them. Then I purchase four 5x7 gold frames. I took the backing off, removed the glass and cut vinyl stencils to make the word "love". A letter on each piece of glass and then I etched each piece. I glued the frames to make a box and set the glass back in. I cut a piece of foam board to go on the bottom and glued it in. The next thing I made were rose topiaries. I used a candle stick holder again and glued a styrofoam ball on top. Took the roses apart and placed them around the ball. I used a whole ball for one and a half ball for another. The last item I made was another set of candle holders, using candle stick holders again. I got round glass jars and glued small glass gens around each jar and glued them together. Overall I am happy with the look and can't wait to decorate for the next holiday! Oh, and most of the items I purchased from the Dollar Tree!

New Soaps
The new year brings up-coming festivals and making new soaps. Sadly the last few festivals have rained either one or both days. But that doesn't stop me from making soap and coming up with new ideas for products to include in my shop. I love making soap and always thinking of new ideas for this one or that one. Sometimes I will wake up from my sleep with an idea for a new soap, how sad it that, lol. this year will mark me making soap for almost 7 years. I can't believe it has been that long. I can still remember my first batch and last year I used the last of it. Who would've thought that I would love doing what I do. I am still holding out on my dream to have an actual store and I have a vision of the design and layout and dying to see it come to fruition. I will continue to strive and work towards that goal. In the meantime, my presence will continue on-line and social media. Here are some of the soaps that I have made in the last few months.

The Artisan Group
I've mentioned that I am a member of The Artisan Group where handmade artisans have been selected to participate in gifting celebrities. I have had the opportunity to give three different celebrities that included Christina Hendricks of Mad Men and Vanessa Lachey. They provide opportunites for artisans to display their wares at large events like the Golden Globes. I am proud to be a member of this group and having the opportunites I've had to allow someone famous to try some of my products. The Artisan group has gifted Tori Spelling, Rachel Raye, Tyra Banks, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, just to name a few of the celebrities. I hope to be able to particiapte is some of the bigger events and have my products in more celebrities hands. Here is a picture of what I gifted Christina Hendricks. I gifted her an emulsifed sugar scrub in Pink Grapefruit and a Dead Sea Mud Facial bar with Dead Sea Mud, Rice Bran Oil, Walnut Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter, Rosemary Powder and Sea Kelp. I have one bar left from this batch and will be making some more so if you are interested, stop by my shop.

Updates and More
I know that I keep saying that I am going to be here and update my posts more often and it just doesn't seem to happen the way I want. So, what has happened since my last post? A whole lot! Let's see where do I want to begin? I guess I will continue with some of the newest products I have made beginning with some other soap cakes that I made. I made two more and I want to try my hand at a wedding soap cake so that is in the future. The two I made was a birthday and a baby girl shower cake. I had so much fun doing these and I have to admit that they are addicting. I also have to admit that I am not the best cake decorator out there but practice helps one to achieve better results.
I have gotten many comments about my cakes and am always asked if they are real or not. I love how I can get people to question whether my soaps are soap or food, lol.

My Latest Creation!
For some reason I have this thing about making soap look like desserts. I've made Popsicle soaps, cupcake soaps and bath fizzies, ice cream soaps and even chocolate covered strawberries bath melts. I've also made soap bundt cakes; but I wanted to make a soap cake with layers and looked like a birthday cake. I had been looking for some round silicone molds and the other day, my dear friend Malene had gone to an estate sale and bought a ton of silicone molds. In the lot that she purchased were two round ones and she gave them to me! I was tickled pink and couldn't wait to start experimenting. How hard could it be?
Well, let me tell you, it was no easy feat. First the layers came out perfect, but I forgot that I had put goats milk in them, so they started to gel. I realized this as I was almost finished with my whipped soap that I was going to ice them with. I had to rush and put them in the fridge to stop them from gelling. So time stood still for a while and my whipped soap was starting to set up. Well, I couldnt let it go to waste so I got the layers back out, still partially gelled, but I continued on. I think it kind of work to my advantage to a certain extent. It really was like icing a cake! I wanted to used more colors; but time was not on my side so I had to make do.
So from that experience, I now know what to do and not do, so I'm anxious to make my next decorated cake. I have several ideas going through my head for some other cakes and can't wait to get busy. Here is a pic of the completed product and maybe I can video myself making the next one. I am conflicted on how I should fragrance my cakes. Should I go with a bakery scent or just a scent that I like. This one is fragranced with Cool Water for Her and smells devine!

New Products coming your Way
I know it has been a while since I have posted and that is because I have been busy with Christmas coming, taking care of my Mom and working. There is light at the end of the tunnel, thankfully :). Since I have been home with my mother, I have still been able to squeeze a few batches of soaps out, lol. I also wanted to work on improving my recipe and instead of having several (like 20+) I wanted to keep like three main recipes and improve on them. I wanted to provide more lather, improve the conditioning properties and have the bar last longer. Well, I think that I have come up with a pretty nice bar of soap or should I say soaps. I am phasing out my other bars and putting my new bars up on my website and in my ArtFire Store. Let me tell you, that's a lot of work, changing out everything, but I am getting close. (Thank God!) I also wanted to add a few new products and those will be introduced after the New Year, YAY!!! Here are a couple of my newest soaps and they have been listed on my website.
The first is a Dead Sea Mud Bar with Dead Sea Mud and Seaweed. I fragranced it with Sea Glass, which is a nice green fragrance. I am very happy with the way it came out. What is so special about a Dead Sea Mud Soap, you ask, well let me tell you. Many Spas use Dead Sea Mud to cleanse and detoxify your body. This does the same, only you won't get "muddy" so to speak. People have been using Dead Sea Mud for years believing that it will make them look younger, revitalize them and so on. I don't make any medical claims with the soaps that I make, but I will say that you will feel refreshed after using it. I have also put seaweed in here as I thought that it would go along nicely with Mud.
If you are a coffee lover, you will LOVE this one! Not only can you enjoy your fresh cup of coffee in the morning, but you can bathe in a lovely scented Cafe Mocha Bar. I also though that I would add a little twist to this soap and offer it in a coffee mug and spoon. The soap in the mug is about 12 ounces of soap, you can slice off the size you want and enjoy your shower. Scented with Coffee, Vanilla, and Chocolate. I piped the tops of the bars as well as the soap in the mug.
I formulated a beautiful shampoo bar with Olive Oil, Avocado Oil and Beer just to name a few of the ingredients that I used. This didn't orginally start out as a shampoo bar, it was a beer soap. I decided that I would try this one on my hair. I have used cold-processed soap in my hair in the past but they usually left my hair brittle, dry and unmanageable. When I tired this one, it was love at first lather! My hair is manageable, soft, silky and bouncy. I have not used commercial shampoo since and that has been about six months now. I have had family use it and they too have fell in love with my shampoo bar. I was using a Honey Ale fragrance but now I am using a fragrance similar to Herbal Essence. I plan on making some more with other fragrances so you will have a few to choose from. I also made a batch without beer and it is also a good bar, but I personally prefer to use one with beer. the first one pictured is with beer and the second one is without. The lather from this bar is amazing, you can't really tell the difference between it and the lather from a commercial shampoo.
Another one of my favorites is Green Springs, it smells just like Irish Spring, A lovely unisex, fresh clean scent. All I can say is that I love this one!
So I am not only making body soap, but I am also making laundry soap and a stain remover. My laundry soap is shreds from my stain remover so you get the additional benefits from my stain remover in your laundry soap. I have had a stain on one of my night shirts and had tried everything to get it out with no success (It had been on there for months). After I formulated my stain remover, I tried it on that stain. I wet it and rub the stain remover on it and made a paste. I didn't even let it sit very long, before I threw it in the laundry. To my wonderful surprise, the stain was out! Others who have used it have told me that they have gotten stains out that they tried everything else with. Now, I'm not going to say that it will take out every stain you have but it does get out many staiins. You just have to try to it beleive it. With the laundry soap you use 1-2 tablespoons per load. I tend to use a little more but you will be surprised that it does get your clothes clean. It doesn't make a lot of suds; if any at all but it is doing it's job. I not only make the powder laundry detergent, I also make the liquid, but I usually use that for myself :) Who knows, maybe I will offer the liquid is a quart size.
I will be sharing more in the upcoming weeks and hope that you have found this to be informative and insightful to some of the products that I offer to you.
